Karou Matsubara / Powered Buttercup

Kaoru Matsubara, the green representative of Powerpuff Girls Z, can transform into “Powered Buttercup.” Her name is derived from Matsubara in Setagaya, Tokyo. She has a straightforward and composed personality, never one to hesitate or beat around the bush. With a slightly androgynous style, she refers to herself using “ore.” She excels in both athletic ability and physical strength, ranking at the top both in school and among the trio, with virtually no sport she struggles with. She is especially popular among girls and younger children. She has also received love letters from boys, showing that she has a certain level of popularity with the opposite sex as well. However, she is not fond of “cute” things—she dislikes skirts and tends to avoid traditionally “girly” topics such as fashion, sweets, or romance involving boys she might care about. Because of this, she initially didn’t get along well with the more feminine Momoko and Miyako, often feeling annoyed by their conversations. In truth, she prefers acting alone, as it makes her feel more at ease.
